Bryn Mawr’s collection of over two hundred Asian scrolls, donated by collector Helen Burwell Chapin ’15 over fifty years ago, has recently been the beneficiary of a generous gift by Maxine Lewis ’57, which has allowed staff and consultants to catalogue the objects and prioritize conservation efforts. With this initial, and crucial, assessment complete, we are now ready to contract with conservators specializing in the meticulous and exacting task of restoring these resonant, complex works to their former splendor.
This exhibit includes images of twelve scrolls, donated by collector Helen Burwell Chapin ’15, each accompanied by a brief description, recommended conservation activities, and estimated costs. If you are interested in underwriting part or all of the work associated with one or more of the scrolls with a financial pledge of support, please do contact us via the email address below; we would be happy to provide more information about the objects, the conservation project, and the ways in which your support can be recognized.
We look forward to providing updates on the progress of this new initiative.
